The term lazarus phenomenon is derived from the known biblical reference and is used in reference to treatments that result in substantial clinical improvement. Lazarus phenomenon (LP) was defined as a decrease in National Institutes of Health Stroke scale score (NIHSS) score by at least 50% 24 hours following treatment. It occurs in approximately 25-30% of patients undergoing thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke. Statistically significant predictors for LP shown here include: good pial collateral formation, higher reperfusion rate, and less time to treatment.
